Garmin-Cervélo TT Specialists Take Two

David Millar finished the Giro d’Italia with a win in the final time trial and Dave Zabriskie again asserted his dominance in the US National TT championships. These Garmin-Cervélo riders have long-standing reputations as time trial specialists and once again they delivered victories on an exciting weekend of racing spread across two continents. Riding Cervelo P4 bikes and the proven Mavic CC80/Comete disc combination, they showed once again why they are always respected competitors.

After three grueling weeks of racing in the Giro d’Italia, David Millar won the hotly contested final TT by just seven seconds. The Scotsman was understandably pleased to watch rider after rider fail to best his result after he set the fastest time early in the day. Millar wore the pink leader’s jersey two weeks earlier in the race. He has now won stages and worn the leader’s jersey in all three Grand Tours.

Across the Atlantic in the USA, Millar’s teammate Dave Zabriskie used his trademark super-aero position plus perfect legs to win the US National TT championship by 31 seconds. This is Zabriskie’s sixth national title in the discipline, making him perhaps the most consistent of America’s specialists in the race against the clock. His five most recent wins came on this same Greenville, South Carolina course and he owns the course record here, set in 2009.
